Dick was born and raised in Jefferson County. After joining the navy, he became an airplane mechanic and studied and worked in the field of technology and aeronautics. He returned to Fairfield with his family and for 30 years, owned and operated Reed’s Construction and Home Improvements. “As a businessman, it’s important to give back to the community.”
One of Dick’s favorite projects at Pathfinders was the Maasdam Barns Preservation Project, for which Pathfinders played an instrumental role in securing grants. The project successfully preserved a rich part of the area’s history for future generations to come.
It is hard to find a board in the Fairfield area that Dick hasn’t served on. As he puts it, “The more things you’re involved in, the more people you get to meet!”
In addition to the Pathfinders’ Board, Dick has served on Fairfield’s Planning & Zoning Committee, City Council, and the Fairfield Economic Development Association. He’s also Chairman of the 8th Judicial District of the Department of Correctional Services, and serves on the South Iowa Area Crime Commission, and Southeast Iowa Multi-county Solid Waste Landfill, just to name a few!
