Detra Dettmann and Susan Kozak, from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Mines and Minerals Bureau, co-presented information about mining and mine land reclamation to a group of approximately 35 Project AWARE participants in Lacey-Keosaqua Park. The audience was keenly receptive, asked great questions, and inquired about continued learning opportunities.
Project AWARE is organized by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as a watershed awareness river expedition and clean-up. It is a five day long event in which participants spend the day paddling and cleaning up a river in Iowa (this year they were on the Des Moines River). In the evenings, there are educational and social events for participants.
