This resource guide was developed by community residents and elected officials to provide a central location for important community resources. You can filter the guide by “category” or search for an individual resource using the search box on the left.
The guide was developed by local volunteers and a collaboration between Pathfinders RC&D, Jefferson County Supervisors, Jefferson County Mental Health Office, and the Jefferson County Hunger Dialogue.
Transportation
Transportation services available to the public, call to schedule. Riders may use the bus for nearly any purpose: grocery shopping, medical and dental visits, congregate meals, going to work or school, or personal business.
Counseling/Mental Health/Substance Abuse
Outpatient substance abuse treatment, residential substance treatment (Burlington), problem gambling treatment, Drug Free Workplace programming, prevention education, substance abuse screenings, OWI screenings and classes, juvenile diversion, problem gambling crisis intervention. Serves Jefferson County residents.
Food/Clothing/Financial
During the holiday season, this Foundation serves middle school and high school students in the Fairfield, Pekin, and Van Buren Community School Districts. These students are provided with school hoodies and candy at Christmas. The African Violet foundation also holds a 'Caring through Clothing Event' that provides about 700 people with clothing and laundry supplies.

A 28.7 acre full featured park within the city limits of Fairfield. The park features a .77 mile walk loop, multiple playgrounds, a disc golf course, shelters and picnic areas, restrooms, a fruit orchard, and easy access to the 16-mile Jefferson County Loop Trail.

The 16 mile Fairfield Loop Trail officially begins (and ends) next to the Maasdam Barns at Mile Marker Zero. This access is near Jefferson County Health Center (at the interchange of Hwy 1 & US 34). However, plenty of other entrances and exits let you customize your enjoyment of this unique trail. Trail surface is crushed limestone on most segments but a couple are concrete.

Iowa Family & Educator Partnership: Coordinates partnerships between families, educators, and community providers to promote the success of all children with special needs. Special Education: Free services to children with special needs and all children with disabilities (birth-21 yrs). Services include: hearing screenings and diagnostic testing, services to the mentally disabled, severe/profound and physically handicapped children located in selected school centers, speech-language services and special education consulting.

Proteus National Farmworker Jobs Program serves migrant and seasonal farmworkers with financial assistance while attending school and job placement. They can help individuals complete up to a two year program (often at community colleges), general education development (GED), Adult Basic Education, and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. River Hills Community Health Center (RHCHC) provides comprehensive Family Practice, Pediatrics, Women's Health & Family Planning, Behavioral Health, and General Dentistry services throughout Southeastern Iowa. Some services have a sliding scale for payment. Serves Jefferson County residents.
RHC is an extension of Central Iowa Shelter & Services (CISS) out of Des Moines and offers services to families and individuals that are experiencing homelessness in 15 counties in Iowa: Jasper, Warren, Poweshiek, Iowa, Marion, Mahaska, Keokuk, Jefferson, Davis, Appanoose, Lucas, Wayne, Van Buren, Wapello and Monroe. This program has been established for people moving from the region to seek shelter and services and is working with local community resources to meet people in their own communities.

The SEIL Region 24 hour crisis line provides immediate help to individuals and families of people in emotional crisis. Trained crisis intervention specialists are available to receive crisis calls 24 hours a day, every day. Staff provides prompt and compassionate crisis intervention, information, referrals for follow-up service, and support to individuals experiencing emotional distress or psychiatric crisis including depression, suicide and loneliness.

SEIRHA administers a Section 8 Rental Assistance Program, also known as the Housing Choice Voucher Program. The program allows qualified applicants the freedom to choose quality privately owned housing throughout their community while maintaining rent payments that they can afford.
